Sang Van Phan, affectionately known as Sam, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026 in Warren, Michigan, after a courageous battle with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his family in his final moments, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones.
Born on December 1, 1965, in Bien Hoa, Vietnam, Sam embodied the values of compassion and resilience throughout his life. As a devoted father, brother, and friend, he touched countless lives with his generosity and warmth. Those fortunate enough to know Sam were recipients of an unyielding support and affection, testaments to his steadfast character.
Sam's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. The memories created together stand as cherished reminders of his joyous spirit and gentle presence. His love was a constant source of comfort and inspiration, and those memories will remain in the hearts of his loved ones forever.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Tina Nquyen, and his cherished children: daughters Emily (Ryan Doherty) Nguyen, Amy-Kim Nguyen, and Stacy (Tyler) Carpenter, and son Nhan Phan. Sang’s siblings—Viet, Nam, Hoa, and Thanh Phan—mourn the loss of their brother. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren: Kai Kim, Cade Doherty, and Eliana Carpenter, who brought him immense pride and happiness.
Sam was preceded in death by his father, Chu Phan, and his mother, Thao Huyn.
While hearts are heavy with grief, there is comfort in knowing Sam is no longer suffering and is finally at peace. The outpouring of love, prayers, and support received by the family during this time are deeply appreciated, and a reflection of the many lives Sam touched. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
