Patricia Ann Zabawski, affectionately known as Pat, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan. Born Patricia Ann Dombrowski on March 16, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, she lived a life distinguished by her unwavering generosity, deep understanding, and steadfast faith.
Pat’s academic brilliance was evident from a young age. She was the valedictorian of her Felician Academy High School class of 1965, a testament to her dedication and intellect. Her pursuit of excellence continued at Madonna College, where she once again earned the honor of valedictorian upon graduating in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in medical technology. Demonstrating her commitment to her profession and leadership, she obtained a master’s degree in laboratory management from Wayne State University in 1972. Her knowledge and expertise blossomed into a distinguished career as a supervisor in blood banking at St. Joseph Hospital, where she was known for her meticulous attention to detail and nurturing guidance.
Beyond her professional achievements, Pat’s proudest accomplishment was her family. She nurtured and raised a close-knit, loving, and faith-filled family that stood as the cornerstone of her life. Pat is survived by her devoted husband, James Zabawski; her beloved son, Robert Zabawski, and his wife Karen; her cherished daughter, Mary Zabawski; and her treasured granddaughter, Genevieve Zabawski. Though her beloved parents, Anthony and Frances Dombrowski, and her brother, Anthony, preceded her in death, their spirits lived on through the family Pat so lovingly cared for.
A woman of deep reflection and curiosity, Pat had a passion for road trips that illustrated her adventurous spirit, while her love of reading and writing was manifested in meticulous journals she kept with care and devotion since 1971. These writings are windows into her thoughtful soul, capturing the beauty, challenges, and grace of everyday life.
Patricia’s warmth, intellectual curiosity, and faith-inspired generosity touched all who knew her. She faced life’s trials with grace and met joys with gratitude, leaving a legacy of compassion and strength that will continue to inspire.
